can a company after 8years demand payment from you since they have been quiet and i lost proof of payment?

in 2001 a company in south africa went bankrupt and i was about to come to europe so i paid them the outstanding months balance of our agreement,now a solicitor back in south africa is sending my previous land lord letters of demand.i don’t have any proof of payment as company i paid to cannot be traced only phone number but same not answered.is this legal to be quiet for so long and now come back to demand payment.i know i paid but moving around cause me to loose proof

check your credit report. if it isn’t on there, it doesn’t matter, they are trying to scare you in to paying because they have no leverage and they are greedy. im not sure about the laws in other countries, but if you tell them to “cease and desist” all contact, by law they have to do it. if it is on your credit, you can talk to the credit bureau and see what your statue of limitation is (how long before they cannot report it) for example: if the statute is 7 years, and its now 8 years old (from the day it went to collections), they cannot report it. if its on there, request it be removed. if it is rightfully on your report and is preventing you from obtaining credit, see how much longer before the statue is up, if its not up for a long time and you badly need a line of credit, then pay it. but tell them you will only pay 25% of what you owe. this is collections… they wont be losing anything as they probably purchased your debt for 2 cents per every dollar you owe. but be sure to tell them you want them to report the debt as paid in full at the legal amount. if they refuse tell them you want a letter stating that so you have that proof to get it removed yourself. if they wont send you that letter, tell them to p!ss off. lots of info.. hope it helps!

if a woman in europe wants to press charges against me who lives in the middle east for phone harassment can having my mobile phone number help her do that?we are not talking about intimidation harassment just lots of calls that have been done in the past…suppose i try to get in touch once again and suppose she kept my mobile number from the past will it help her when she goes to the police?

How do I find out who called me?

I have had a “funny” phone call from a mobile number outside of UK, US and Europe and I want to trace who the owner of that mobile is. I don’t mind paying either. Anyone know a company that can do this? All free traces seem to be for US or UK numbers only. Tried phoning it back from another phone but got nowhere.
When I say “funny” not rude or threatening just strange.
